- Indonesia’s Minister of Industry, Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, issued a statement recently affirming that the pharmaceutical and medical-devices sector is currently categorized as a high-demand industry as a result of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The Indonesian Government has therefore decided to promote the utilization of digital technologies within this vital sector from the production stage until the distribution stage.
- Furthermore, the Secretariat of the Directorate-General of Pharmaceutical and Medical Devices at the Ministry of Health has revealed that the Ministry of Health has drawn up a roadmap for the accelerated development of the pharmaceutical and medical-devices industry in line with the so-called Industry 4.0 paradigm and, more specifically, with the Making Indonesia 4.0 program that is currently being implemented by the Ministry of Industry.
- Several companies operating within this sector are already implementing Industry 4.0 as a part of their business activities. For example, PT Kimia Farma Sungwun Pharmacopia is currently applying Industry 4.0 in relation to the so-called Internet of Things in a bid to improve connectivity. Meanwhile, PT Schott Igar Glass has now integrated its production line into the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and e-procurement systems, meaning that suppliers can now enjoy access to transparent, real-time data.
