- According to Budi Gunardi, Indonesia’s Minister of Health, the government is currently preparing the distribution of 1.2 million doses of the Corona Virus Disease 2019 (“COVID-19”) vaccine, which will be distributed throughout the territory of Indonesia with a targeted completion date of 7 January 2021. The vaccination process will then get underway during the second week of January 2021 now that an official Emergency Use Authorization for the vaccine has been issued by the National Agency of Food and Drug Control (BPOM).
- Mr. Gunardi has reminded all health facilities and services to immediately apply via the Primary Care (PCare) application operated by the Social Security Agency for Health in order to be allocated consignments of the COVID-19 vaccine. Furthermore, health facilities and services have also been reminded to submit applications for all of their vaccination requirements, including coolers and refrigerators in which to store the vaccine, to their nearest health offices.
- The Head of the Eijkman Molecular Biology Agency, Amin Soebandrio, has stated that the current status regarding the use of the vaccine is still awaiting the promised interim report related to the phase 3 clinical report of the Sinovac vaccine in Bandung, West Java. Mr. Soebandrio further elaborated that the vaccination of the general public is aiming to achieve herd immunity, which should be fulfilled through the vaccination of at least 70% of Indonesia’s citizens.
