Ministry of Communication and Information to Focus on Accelerated Digital Transformation During 2021

  • Johnny G. Plate, Indonesia’s Minister of Communication and Information, has stressed six areas of focus that the Ministry of Communication and Information (“Ministry”) will be concentrating on during 2021 as a part of efforts to accelerate digital transformation within the territory of Indonesia.
  • The six areas of focus comprise the following aspects:  1) Increasing the proactive nature of the Ministry’s public communications, which are expected to reduce hoaxes and misinformation and to ultimately create a sense of security among the general public; 2) Completion of the development of information and communication technologies, specifically regarding the provision of 4G connectivity within residential and public-service areas; 3) Development of a national data center which will support the Indonesia’s One Data initiative, as well as the implementation of electronic government; 4) Provision of sufficient high-quality bandwidth, as well as the establishment of a bandwidth monitoring center; 5) Continuing the process of broadcast digitalization in line with a planned Analog Switch Off which is scheduled for 24.00 WIB on 2 November 2022; and 6) Development of the digital economy, particularly in relation to ultra-micro-, micro-, small- and medium-scale businesses which currently constitute 60% of national gross domestic product (GDP).
  • Furthermore, Mr. Plate has also instructed all staff members and officers working at the Ministry to continue to prioritize accountability at work, particularly during 2021, when the Ministry has been assigned to oversee the acceleration of the national infrastructure development. (KOMINFO)
