- The Minister of State-Owned Enterprises, who is concurrently serving as the head of the COVID-19 Handling and National Economic Restoration Committee, Erick Thohir, issued a statement recently confirming that the government would ensure that the country’s ongoing program of electricity subsidies would continue to be implemented according to current arrangements, specifically: 1) Tariff-free electricity for household customers with 450 VA supplies; and 2) 50% discount on electricity tariffs for household customers with 900 VA supplies until March of 2021. Furthermore, the period of the 50% subsidy on electricity tariffs may be extended, subject to further consideration of the ongoing impact of COVID-19 upon the country’s citizens.
- In addition, Mr. Thohir also affirmed that the government would ensure that the implementation of all of its ongoing social safety net and stimulus programs would continue through 2021, including: 1) Vaccine procurements; 2) Direct social assistance (bantuan sosial tunai/BST); 3) Interest subsidies; 4) Funding for micro-, small- and medium-scale enterprises; and 5) Food security.
