Govt. to Prepare National Digital Economy Strategy

  • Rudy Salahudin, the Coordinating Deputy for Creative Economy, Entrepreneurship and Cooperative and Micro- and Small-Scale Business Competitiveness at the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, has just issued a statement confirming that the government is currently deliberating a national strategy for digital economy as part of an accommodative policy aimed at the establishment of a level playing field and at the empowerment of both micro-, small- and medium-scale enterprises (“SMEs”), as well as the creation of human resources with high-level skill sets.
  • Mr. Salahudin further explained that all of Indonesia’s various ministries and institutions currently have their own respective digital economy policies. However, it is hoped that through the establishment of a single national strategy, more sustainable economic growth will be achieved and the relevant complex policies will be able to produce a greater inclusivity.
  • Mr. Salahudin also revealed that the new strategy, in its currently deliberated form, encompasses the following four main pillars: 1) Digital talent; 2) Research and innovation; 3) Physical and digital infrastructure; and 4) Supportive regulations and policies. These four pillars are expected to provide added value that will encourage the development of businesses, as well as improve public and government capacities, so as to hopefully produce sufficient and sustainable economic growth.
