- The Indonesian Government has recently adjusted the applicable export tariff for crude palm oil (“CPO”) and related derivative products through the issuance of Regulation of Minister of Finance (“Minister”) No. 191/PMK.05/2020, which is an amendment to Regulation of the Minister No. 57/PMK.05/2020 on Public Service Tariffs at the Public Service Agency for Palm Oil Plantation Fund Management.
- In general, the export tariff for CPO and related derivative products has now been increased to USD 15 for each USD 25 increase in the CPO price per ton. For example: 1) If the CPO price is ≤ USD 670 per ton then the new tariff is set at USD 55 per ton; and 2) If the CPO product price is between USD 670 and USD 695 per ton, then the new tariff is set at USD 60 per ton.
- Furthermore, the Coordinating Deputy for Food and Agribusinesses, Musdalifah, stated recently that the adjusted tariff has been introduced due to the currently low level of soybean oil production, which is used as a substitute for CPO. In addition, it is hoped that the new tariff adjustment will boost the revenue take of the Public Service Agency for Palm Oil Plantation Fund Management (Badan Pegelola Dana Perkebunan Kelapa Sawit – “BPDPKS”), in turn helping it to improve the services that it offers, specifically: 1) Improvement of the quality and quantity of palm plantations; 2) Development of human resources; 3) Research and development relating to palm oil.
- Eddy Abdurachman, the Head of the BPDPKS, has asserted that the newly adjusted tariff has been stipulated based on a reference price set by the Ministry of Trade with a cutoff calculation that refers to the date of issuance of export notices. (ANT)
