- The Chairman of the Indonesian Business Association (Asosiasi Pengusaha Indonesia – “APINDO”), Hariyadi B. Sukamdani, has recommended that the government review the current prices of industrial fuels, electricity and gas, which are proving burdensome to the business community due to the weakening of the national economy in the wake of the Corona Virus Disease 2019 (“COVID-19”) pandemic.
- The COVID-19 pandemic has also reduced the competitiveness of national industries due to the demand for goods from both domestic and foreign markets declining. Furthermore, the global oil price has also now dropped below USD 20 per barrel.
- APINDO suggests eliminating premium-account fees for the minimum 40 hours of electricity usage, including for 235 hours of usage by premium industry customers operating during the COVID-19 pandemic. APINDO is also requesting a postponement of the payment of 50% of PLN bills until December 2020, with guaranteed payment installments in the form of demand deposits backdated for 12 months and the elimination of late payment fines.
- In relation to industrial gas, APINDO is urging the government to immediately implement a reduction in the price of certain types of natural gas at the point of delivery for natural-gas users (plant gates) across all industrial sectors. The requested reduction will amount to USD 6 per million British Thermal Units (MMBU) at an exchange rate of IDR 14,000 per US dollar. (APINDO Pers Conference)
