- Despite having taken receipt of the Draft Bill on Job Creation (“Draft Bill”) a few weeks ago, the House of Representatives (“House”) has yet to appoint an organ that will be responsible for deliberations of the Draft Bill. However, Deputy Head of the House’s Legislative Body (Badan Legislatif - “Baleg”), Willy Aditya, recently stated his hope that the Draft Bill would be discussed by Baleg.
- After confirming that Baleg had already held a number of meetings with relevant stakeholders in order to solicit feedback prior to the Draft Bill being submitted to the House, Mr. Aditya also asserted his belief that Baleg was able to provide a platform through which members of all of the House’s various commissions would be able to participate, thus facilitating discussions of the wide range of issues addressed under the Draft Bill from multiple perspectives.
- This plan is also being supported by Mukhtaruddin, a member of House Commission VI, who recently stated that, ideally, the Draft Bill would be discussed through a mechanism implemented by Baleg. Moreover, a deadline of just 100 days would be targeted for completion of discussions, as Baleg is expected to be able to offer a faster, more focused discussion process.
- The Head of Regional Representatives Council (Dewan Perwakilan Daerah/DPD), La Nyalla Mahmud Mattalitti, also recently stated that DPD would be overseeing the discussions in order to ensure that the interests of each of Indonesia’s regions were adequately represented.
