PERADI Unified into Single Bar Organization

A letter of agreement that is seeking to unify the Indonesian Bar Association (Perhimpunan Advokat Indonesia – “PERADI”) under a single umbrella has finally been signed by Luhut M. Pangaribuan of PERADI Rumah Bersama Advokat (“RBA”), Fauzi Y. Hasibuan of PERADI-SOHO and Juniver Girsang of PERADI Suara Advokat Indonesia (“SAI”). The letter was signed at a meeting which was witnessed by Indonesia’s Minister of Law and Human Rights, Yasonna H. Laoly and Coordinating Minister of Political, Legal and Security Affairs, Moh. Mahfud MD. The agreement states that each of the currently existing PERADI organizations will assign three people to a drafting committee that will be responsible for formulating concepts and procedures in preparation for a National Conference (“Munas”) with PERADI.
Responding to this development, Chairman of the Steering Committee, Imam Hidayat, stated recently that the proposed concepts, specifically One Man One Vote (OMOV), One Person One Vote (OPOV) and delegation representatives required further discussion in order to ensure a successful outcome for the upcoming Munas.
PERADI is moving towards the creation of a single bar organization, meaning that in the future there will be only one organization, one ethics council, one set of regulations on bar educational courses (Pendidikan Khusus Profesi Advokat/PKPA) and bar examinations (Ujian Profesi Advokat – UPA), as well as one legally compliant oath-taking procedure.
