- Among other responses to the huge scope of the Draft Bill on Job Creation (“Draft Bill”), a typing mistake has been discovered in Article 170 of the Draft Bill, which states that the government can amend laws through Regulations of the Government. In response, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives (Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat – “DPR”), Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, has stated that the DPR will take careful notice of all of the content contained within the Draft Bill.
- Mr. Sufmi has now further clarified that a DPR leaders meeting (rapat pimpinan) will be held next week and will involve a discussion of the Draft Bill undertaken by a complementary organ (alat kelengkapan) of the DPR. Mr. Sufmi also stated his expectation that the general public would supervise further discussions of the Draft Bill, as undertaken by the complementary organ.
- As regards the typing error discovered within the body of the Draft Bill, Coordinating Minister of Political, Legal and Security Affairs, Mahfud MD, has admitted that the mistake was made during the drafting of the bill. According to Mr. Mahfud, the Draft Bill will still be subject to further changes by stakeholders, including the general public, through the making of recommendations.
