Govt. Seeks to Improve Indonesia’s Financial Services Sector

Indonesia’s Minister of Finance, Sri Mulyani, working in conjunction with the Financial System Stability Committee (Komite Stabilitas Sistem Keuangan), which comprises Bank Indonesia, the Financial Services Authority (“OJK”) and the Deposit Guarantee Corporation (LPS), is currently preparing an omnibus law for the financial sector with the goal of improving the country’s financial system legal frameworks for crisis prevention and mitigation. In regard to this issue, Mrs. Mulyani stated recently that Indonesia still lacked the necessary legal basis required in order to oversee crises in nonbank financial sectors.
Mrs. Mulyani also revealed that the forthcoming omnibus law for the taxation sector would soon be submitted to the House of Representatives (DPR). _(ANT)
