Draft Omnibus Law on Taxation to be Submitted to the House This Week

  • On Monday, 16 December 2019, Indonesia's Minister of Finance, Sri Mulyani, issued a statement outlining the fact that the Draft Omnibus Law on Taxation (“Draft Omnibus Law”) had now entered its final phase of deliberation and would be submitted to the House of Representatives (“House”) by the end of this week.
  • Mrs. Mulyani went on to state that the Draft Omnibus Law encompasses 28 articles, as well as amendments to seven laws, specifically: 1) Income-tax law; 2) Value-added tax law; 3) General tax provision law; 4) Customs law; 5) Excise law; 6) Regional tax and retribution law; and 7) Regional government law.
  • Furthermore, the Draft Omnibus Law encompasses six clusters, specifically: 1) Investment financing; 2) Territorial taxation system; 3) Individual tax subjects; 4) Taxpayer compliance; 5) Business climate; and 6) Taxation facilities.
  • Ultimately, Mrs. Mulyani is hoping that deliberations of the Draft Omnibus Law will be completed promptly during the 2020 assembly session of the House due to widespread familiarity with its subject matter, its limited number of articles and the fact that the new law has been widely discussed on many previous occasions.
