- As the Indonesian Government follows its Making Indonesia 4.0 Roadmap, it is continuing to focus on attracting ever greater numbers of global-scale foreign investors to the country. One particular area of focus is the manufacturing sector due to the fact that industrialization is believed to have broadly positive multiple effects upon national economies, including increased added value for domestic raw materials, utilization of local manpower and the generation of foreign exchange through exports.
- According to the Minister of Industry (“Minister”), Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, in order to achieve the abovementioned objective, the ministry will simplify manufacturing-related regulations in an attempt to make the sector more investor-friendly. In line with this goal, the Ministry of Industry will also be placing a greater emphasis on export-oriented industries, as well as the manufacture of import-substituting products.
- Based on annual data up until the third quarter of 2019, the Minister has expressed his optimism that Indonesia remains a desirable destination for investment. Indeed, as well as offering abundant resources and a potentially huge market, the Indonesian Government is also striving to improve the national investment climate through the implementation of various strategies, such as the Online Single Submission system and various tax facilities. The Minister went on to reveal that the government is also aiming to introduce an investment positive list which will be implemented across special economic zones by January 2020 in an effort to further boost the national investment climate.
