- The Executive Director of the Telecommunication and Information Accessibility Agency (“BAKTI”), Anang Latif, announced recently that installation work on the Palapa Ring project had been completed and that the system was ready to enhance connectivity across the entire country from Sabang to Merauke. Now that the Palapa Ring has been brought online, Mr. Latif asserts that businesses should now be able to overcome any connectivity issues that they have been experiencing in terms of the services that they offer to the general public.
- In addition, Mr. Latif went on to explain that businesses may enjoy free access to the Palapa Ring for a limited trial period. However, Mr. Latif also emphasized that in terms of any remote areas which have to date been considered non-profitable for businesses as regards the provision of connectivity, the government is currently preparing a proposal for the establishment of 4000 BTS (base transceiver stations) and multifunction satellites.
- Service tariff packages for the Palapa Ring will be determined based on investment value, market price and customer numbers. In general, customers will be allowed to consume up to 10 Gbps of bandwidth capacity each.
- Tariffs for the use of the Palapa Ring will differ in accordance with area and the types of bandwidth used, specifically: 1) For 10G fiber-optic bandwidth in the East Palapa Ring, tariffs will range from IDR 80 – 552 million per month; 2) For 10G fiber-optic bandwidth in the Central Palapa Ring, tariffs will range from IDR 56 – 240 million per month; and 3) For 10G fiber-optic bandwidth in the West Palapa Ring, tariffs will range from 160 – 445.6 million per month.
