PLN to Compensate Consumers for Recent Blackout

  • PT PLN Persero (“PLN”) has finally issued a clarification regarding the formula which will be used in order to calculate the levels of compensation which will be paid to their customers for the recent massive blackout that hit the Indonesian capital and many areas of Java on 4 August 2019. It has been claimed that PLN will offer compensation in accordance with Regulation of the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources No. 27 of 2017 on Service Level Arrangements and Fees for the Distribution of Electricity by PLN.
  • PLN’s Vice President of Public Relations, Dwi Suryo Abdullah, recently clarified that the amount of compensation that customers will be entitled to will feature in their monthly account billing by September 2019 or be printed on the receipt for the first token that they purchase after 1 September 2019 (for prepaid customers). In essence, the amount of compensation that PLN customers can expect breaks down as follows: 1) 35% of the minimum account expenses for customers who are charged adjusted tariffs; 2) 20% of the minimum account expenses for customers who are charged non-adjusted tariffs; or 3) In accordance with the relevant Service Level Agreements (SLA) for premium customers.
  • In order to find out the exact amount of compensation that they are entitled to, customers should access the official PLN website (www.pln.co.id), click on the “Compensation Information” section and then input their customer IDs. (ANT)
