Energy Ministry to Prepare Infrastructure for Electric Vehicles

Indonesia’s Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Ignasius Jonan, recently issued a statement outlining the fact that the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (“Ministry”) is currently awaiting the issuance of a Regulation of the President on electric vehicles, particularly in regard to the following issues: 1) Luxury-Goods Sales Tax (“PPnBM”); 2) Import duty; 3) Local content; and 4) Methods of assembly.
While various interested parties await the introduction of this new legal framework, Jonan has explained that the Ministry is currently preparing the necessary supporting infrastructure for electric vehicles, including the installation of a network of Public Electric Charging Stations (“SPLU”) in readily accessible public locations. At present, some 3,000 SPLU have already been installed by PT PLN (Persero). (SETKAB)
