Government Proposes Two New Employment-Related Insurance Programs

Indonesia’s Minister of Manpower, Hanif Dhakiri, recently stated his intention to create two new programs which will fall under the administration of the Social Security Agency for Manpower (“BPJS Ketenagakerjaan”), specifically: 1) Insurance which covers the termination of employment relationships and which will thus allow terminated employees receive some income while searching for new job opportunities; and 2) Training and certification insurance, which will allow for costs relating to training and certification to be covered by the government.
Dhakiri’s plan comes in the wake of a proposal to expand the total number of national insurance programs, as currently provided by BPJS Ketenagakerjaan, from four to six. Bambang Brodjonegoro, the Minister for National Development Planning/Head of the National Development Planning Agency, stated his agreement to the insurance for termination of employment relationships.
