President Jokowi to Focus on Five Sectors during Second Term of Office

  • On 14 July 2019, Indonesia’s recently reelected president, Joko Widodo, set out his vision and mission for his 2019 - 2024 presidential term of office. The five points of the president’s plan comprise: 1) Continued development of the country’s infrastructure, particularly large-scale projects (e.g. toll roads, railway, seaports and airports), with a focus on small-scale industries; 2) Improvement of human resources by guaranteeing the health of pregnant women and elementary-school children, as well as improvement of vocational education; 3) Investment in and promotions relating to the creation of new jobs, including faster, cleaner licensing services with reduced red tape; and 4) Structural bureaucratic reform, particularly in relation to the provision of licensing services and the elimination of comfort zones; and 5) Utilization of state revenue in focused and accurate ways which are in accordance with the above-stated goals.
  • President Widodo also emphasized that these outlined goals will only be realized if Indonesia is able to face the challenge of global competition with an optimist mindset. (ANT)
