With the overall objective of providing legal certainty and official recognition for customary forests (hutan adat) and private forests (hutan hak), the Minister of Environment and Forestry (“Minister”) has issued Regulation No. P.21/MENLHK/SETJEN/KUM.1/4/2019 on Customary Forests and Private Forests (“Regulation 21/2019”).[1]
Prior to the issuance of Regulation 21/2019, matters pertaining customary and private forest were previously addressed under Regulation of the Minister No. 32/MENLHK-SETJEN/2015 on Private Forests (“Regulation 32/2015”), which now has been repealed and replaced by Regulation 21/2019.[2]
