Installation and Activation of Automatic Identification Systems for Vessels

In a bid to increase the safety and security of seafaring activities,[1] the Minister of Transportation (“Minister”) has issued Regulation No. PM 7 of 2019 on the Installation and Activation of Automatic Identification Systems for Vessels Sailing through Indonesian Territorial Waters (“Regulation 7/2019”).

In essence, Regulation 7/2019 addresses the various obligations which must be met by vessels and vessel captains as regards the installation and activation of Automatic Identification Systems (“AIS”), as well as the various sanctions which can be imposed for any acts of non-compliance.
