Digital Employment Supervision Initiative to be Launched in 2019

  • Budi Hartawan, Secretary of the Directorate General of Manpower Development and Supervision and Health and Safety at the Ministry of Manpower (“Ministry”), recently stated that the government was engaged in an ongoing process aimed at the strengthening and synchronization of workflows between central and regional governments. The Ministry is hopeful that manpower norms will be implemented by its official target of approximately 21,000 companies before the end of 2019.
  • In addition, Budi also stressed that two indicators will be adopted in order to check on the progress of the synchronization process, specifically: 1) Increasing level of company compliance as regards the implementation of employment norms (i.e., training, employee placements, work ethics, work safety, work security and work relationships); and 2) Prevention of 86,000 child laborers from working in the worst types of employment.
  • In addition to this new initiative, Budi also stated that the Ministry is currently in the process of creating a digital manpower supervision system in a bid to make improvements in this area. The new system will address the determination of work plans, as well as the formulation of assignment letters and examination notes, and is set to be launched this year.
