- Corporations, particularly financial services, are becoming increasingly vulnerable to cybercrime, which primarily takes the following forms: 1) Breaches of confidential data, such as trade secrets and marketing strategies; 2) Credit-card fraud; 3) Identity fraud; and 4) Illegal withdrawals of funds. Such crimes may arise as a result of various internal factors (i.e., lack of employee awareness, fraud, etc.) or external factors (i.e., hacking).
- Matters relating to cybercrime are specifically addressed under Regulation of the Minister of Communication and Informatics No. 4 of 2016 on Information Security Management Systems (“Regulation 4/2016”), which specifically requires all Electronic System Providers to implement ISO/IEC 27001, as well as a number of other safety standards. Unfortunately, however, corporations are still not paying close enough attention to issues relating to cybersecurity, in spite of the fact that data can be considered one of a corporation’s most important assets. Thus it is vital that awareness regarding the combating of cybercrimes continues to be an area of focus for both the government and for the country’s corporate sector.
