- In spite of the fact that the government has not yet published any official Problem Inventory List (“DIM”) and distributed it to the House of Representatives (“House”), the Special Committee (“Pansus”) for the Draft Bill on Tobacco (“Draft Bill”) has pledged to continue deliberating the Draft Bill due to the fact that the President recently issued an official Presidential Letter ordering the relevant Ministries to proceed with deliberations.
- Firman Subagyo, Head of Pansus for the Draft Bill has repeatedly insisted that the government immediately draw up and submit the DIM to the DPR. Subagyo has also emphasized the fact that the Draft Bill is aiming to protect tobacco farmers and industries but that priority will also be given to issues relating to human health.
- Speaking separately, Darori Wonodipuro, a member of Pansus for the Draft Bill, recently stressed that the Draft Bill would also address the medical sector and subsidies for tobacco farmers, as well as the protection of domestic cigarette factories from external pressure being exerted by big tobacco companies.
