- In a bid to empower micro-scale businesses, the Government Investment Centre (“PIP”) at the Ministry of Finance has decided to enter into cooperation with the Telecommunication and Information Accessibility Agency (“BAKTI”) at the Ministry of Communication and Informatics regarding the implementation of the Digitalization of Ultra-Micro Financing (“UMi”) initiative. Through this cooperation, it is hoped that an alternative method for the disbursement of cashless UMi financing will become available.
- The UMi is currently undergoing trials involving four partners of Payment System Service Providers (“PJSP”), specifically: 1) PT Telkom Indonesia (T-Money); 2) PT Telekomunikasi Seluler (T-Cash); 3) PT Bukalapak.com (Bukalapak); and 4) PT Dompet Anak Bangsa (Go-Pay).
- It is hoped that the trial process will be able to estimate the acceptability of UMi debtors as regards the performance, recordation and reporting of electronic transactions through the use of a cashless method via an electronic money platform, as operated by PJSP. Evaluations of the digitalization of UMi are to be undertaken by the government on a quarterly basis.
