Government Commences Deliberation of Draft Bill on Creative Economy

Commission X at the House of Representatives has just reached an agreement on the so-called Problem Inventory List (Daftar Inventaris Masalah/DIM) which will be used as a reference during the deliberation of the Draft Bill on Creative Economy (“Draft Bill”). The Draft Bill itself will address several matters, including integrated infrastructure, creative business entrepreneurship, promotional activity, organization and financing.
It has been predicted that the Draft Bill will ultimately facilitate and encourage growth within the country’s creative economy, which should in turn lessen Indonesia’s dependence on the extraction of natural resources. Furthermore, it is hoped that the Draft Bill will ultimately strengthen the Creative Economy Agency (Badan Ekonomi Kreatif/BEKRAF) as an institution, as BEKRAF currently has only limited resources at its disposal, as well as only a single office in Jakarta.
