Overview

Indonesia is the world's largest archipelagic and maritime state, comprising as it does of a total of 17,504 islands which are linked by a total maritime area of approximately 6.4 million km2.[1] As such, the utilization and development of sea transportation for both passengers and goods are crucial to the development of Indonesia’s national economy. One example of the importance of sea transportation and shipping business to Indonesia can be seen in the government’s introduction of the sea-highway policy back in 2016. This policy aimed to decrease the price of staple goods in eastern Indonesia by 20% on average, as well as to decrease the price of cement by 40%.[2]
