- Minister of Communication and Informatics, Rudiantara, has stated that Indonesia urgently needs to develop its digital infrastructure through industry 4.0 in order to become a strong industrial nation.
- With this goal in mind, the Ministry of Communication and Informatics is now coordinating with the Ministry of Industry (“Ministry”) in order to develop digital infrastructure throughout the country’s industrial zones. The Ministry will not only act as a regulator but also as a facilitator and accelerator of the development of technology-based industries.
- Furthermore, industry 4.0 will not only encompass five priority sectors (i.e., food and beverages, automotive, electronics, chemicals and textiles) but also several non-priority industrial sectors.
- The Minister is currently deliberating a number of strategic measures aimed at the development of these non-priority industrial sectors through the implementation of industry 4.0 schemes, including: 1) The re-optimization of supply chains; 2) Development of national digital infrastructure; and so forth.
- Industry 4.0 is expected to be able to revitalize the manufacturing sector, restoring the country to its position as a net exporter and increasing the contribution that manufacturing makes to Indonesia’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP). [ANT]
