Review of Planned Consultation Service Law Sought

The National Association of Indonesian Consultants (“INKINDO”) is being urged by Bowo Sidik Pangarso, a member of House of Representatives (“House”) Commission VI, to act proactively and to ascertain, on behalf of both the House and the government, the underlying reasons for the planned introduction of a Consultation Service Law.
Mr. Pangarso has also stressed that there is an ongoing misconception that a consultant is the same as a contractor, while in fact, during any process of infrastructure development, both the planning and supervisory stages of a given infrastructure project are implemented by consultants and not by contractors.
The academic script of the Consultation Service Law was actually drawn up a number of years ago, however, both the government and the House have been reluctant to push for its full deliberation. As a result, a solid legal framework which addresses infrastructure consultants remains elusive. (ANT)
