Govt. Simplifies Import of Gadgets

The Minister of Trade (“Minister”) has issued Regulation No. 41/M-DAG/PER/5/2016 (“Amendment”), which amends Ministry Regulation No. 82/M-DAG/PER/12/2012 on Requirements for the Importation of Cell Phones, Handheld Computers and Tablet Computers (“Regulation”).[1]
 
The Amendment is aiming to boost investment within the telecommunications sector in Indonesia, specifically as it relates to cell phones, handheld computers and tablet computers (“collectively referred to as “Gadgets”). In order to implement the objective, the Amendment alters the provision which relates to the importation of Gadgets, specifically:
