Pursuant to Article 7 of Government Regulation No. 27 of 2012 on Environmental Licenses,[1] ministries and government institutions are authorized to determine technical guidelines for the issuance of an Environmental Impact Assessment Document (Analisis Mengenai Dampak Lingkungan – “AMDAL”). An AMDAL is a prerequisite for securing an Environmental License (Izin Lingkungan).
Under this authority, the Minister of Forestry recently issued Regulation No. P. 21/Menhut-II/2014 on Environment Management and Monitoring of Forestry Activities (“Regulation”). The Regulation essentially provides technical guidelines for businesses in the forestry sector in drafting the necessary support documents to acquire an Environmental License.
