OVERVIEW
The proceeds of crimes originating from graft, illegal logging, narcotics, terrorism, human trafficking, or other criminal acts are often concealed through money laundering.
Money laundering commonly takes advantage of banking and insurance products and services such as traveler’s cheques, bank accounts and deposits, including insurance policies.[1]
Annual state losses due to money being laundered is believed to be in the trillions of rupiah. While recovery of such losses is critical for both state revenue and in developing the rule of law, to date the Government’s track record in recovering illicit assets has been less than encouraging.
