Reclamation of Coastal Areas and Small Islands

Presidential Regulation No. 122 of 2012 on Reclamation of Coastal Areas and Small Islands (“Regulation”) was recently issued. It implements Article 34 of Law No. 27 of 2007 on Management of Coastal Areas and Small Islands (“Law”).

Reclamation refers to a series of activities that serve to enhance use of land’s natural resources for environmental, social, and economic purposes by ways of land filling, dry landscape reclamation, or drainage. Examples of Reclamation of Coastal Areas and Small Islands in Indonesia include: The Serangang - Bali reclamation project and the Pantai Indah Kapuk - North Jakarta reclamation project.
