Social Security Agency

Law No. 24 of 2011 on the Social Security Agency (“Law”) has been issued implement a national social security system that will provide social protection and social welfare programs for Indonesian citizens. The Law is also aimed at creating a national social security agency that will manage the national social security system.

The Law consists of 18 chapters and 71 articles.

Article 1 defines the terms that are used throughout the Law. A social security agency (Badan Penyelenggara Jaminan Sosial – BPJS), as elaborated on in Article 1 (1), is a legal entity that is established to organize social security programs. Social security, as elaborated on in Article 1 (2), is a form of social protection to guarantee citizens’ basic needs.
